Why do I get a headache after meditating?

It’s possible to go ‘too hard too soon’ in meditation practice.  Try bringing a little more softness to your practice without reducing will power – balance effort with easefulness.

It is also possible to meditate too long.  When you are starting out, start sitting for short practices and gradually build up.

How long should I meditate?

Start out small.  Regularity is the key – a short meditation every day is more valuable than a long meditation once a week.

Start out with a short meditation daily –  5 or ten minutes is fine.  Twice daily is even better.  Then as you feel you want to (you will!) you can gradually extend the length of your practice.

It’s also good to note that 5 minutes of effort is more valuable than an hour of mental fuzziness!
